Main objectives

The Sixth Framework Programme is the Union's main instruments for funding S&T research and innovation in Europe. The main objectives of FP6 are strengthening the science and technological bases of industry and encourage its international competitiveness while promoting research activities in support of other EU policies. The Framework Programme is one of the key instruments for realizing the Lisbon strategy: Creating European Research Area.

Structure

FP 6 is divided into two Specific Programme: The first Programme has two objectives Integrating and Strengthening the ERA, while the objective of the second Programme is Structuring the ERA.

Rules of participations

The FP6 is open to all legal entities (in accordance with national, international or European law) that are either involved in research, or in the dissemination or use of research results.

Participant's country of establishment:

  • European Union Member States
  • Associated Candidate Countries
  • Associated States, with or without Science and Technology Agreement signed
  • International organization of European Interest
  • Third Countries (Russia, New Independent States, Mediterranean Countries, Western Balkans, Developing countries)
  • Third countries having a co-operation agreement
  • Other third countries
  • Other international organizations

Different rules for participations and funding apply to different groups of countries.

Serbia and Montenegro can participate in accordance with the rules established for the WB countries.

Budget for the Sixth Framework Programme:

Focusing and integrating Community research 13,345 EUR (milion)
Structuring the European Research Area 2,605 EUR (milion)
Strengthening the foundations of the European Research Area 0,320 EUR (milion)
